Success by Education By Chief Development Officer, Meerut

We welcome you to Success by Education Interview:

What is / are your Present assignment, duties and designation
My present assignment involves taking care of all the development activities in the district and particularly in the rural areas. So that includes building roads, hospitals, schools etc. taking care of rural, poor people be it giving pensions, building homes for the needy and poor. All kind of development activities that happen in the district are all coordinated and taken care of by us.

Did you ever think that you can be on this stage of life?
Yes, I thought about it and I worked hard for it. I always had high aim in life. What is important is that you should have higher aim in life. The higher you aim the more hard work you do the highest level of achievement you reach. I always used to aim high and that is why I reached here.

Do you remember some naughtiness / mistake/ important incidence you did / remember as a young child?
Generally as students there are certain incidences that can be avoided. During my childhood I had a brawl with my fellow students. That has not been taken in the good light by my parents, as well as my teachers. That is something that should be avoided. You should be focused on your studies and not get involved in such things and focus more on your studies

Did you decide what you are today? And how did you reach here?
Yes, it is basically your thoughts dependent on how you think and aim for things and how much you are focused. Aim for things one at a time. When it was during 11th and 12th school, I wanted to be in the best engineering college so I worked hard and got into one of the best engineering college. After that I wanted to do MBA so I was only focused towards getting into the best MBA College only. Hard work is something which is always required. The focus should be to get into the best institutions as you have to compete. And it that only hard work also does not work, you have to get the guidance of the teachers as well as parents.

What you like at best in your job profile to date? Something you did and you became internally happy and you still remember?
Basically helping the needy is what is cherished in my job. In private sector jobs you do a different kind of work and in government you do something different. It is not that private jobs are not good. It is dependent upon one self and what give job satisfaction to you.

My job is related to connecting with people and helping them out. Most of the people come to you when they are needy and comes with an expectation that you would help them. This is something which I love to do and give me a lot of internal satisfaction.

Why education is important? And how education was important to you? And how education transformed you and when?
Education is very important. All the evils that our country had were being able to be eradicated because of the education only. Schools make you more empathetic, you become more aware socially. Education make human more civil.

Success by Education By Traffic Coordinator, Mera Shehar meri pehal, Meerut

We welcome you to Success by Education Interview:

What is / are your Present assignment, duties and designation
I am a Traffic coordinator District in Mera Shehar Meri Pehal

Did you ever think that you can be on this stage of life?
I never thought about it but always wanted to achieve something substantial in life.

Do you remember some naughtiness / mistake/ important incidence you did / remember as a young child?

Did you decide what you are today? And how did you reach here?
I had already been working for two years as traffic coordinator and deeply observed the reasons for the road accidents and traffic jams in the district. We are running awareness campaigns. For this we have also got national excellence award from UK. After that this organization Mera Shahar Meri Pehal had been launched by the commissioner in Meerut and after looking at my sincerity and hard work, he has given me this post.

What you like at best in your job profile to date? Something you did and you became internally happy and you still remember?
Whatever I do, I do it with sincerity and dedication. I get lot of internal happiness in doing social work. In 2014 in Meerut, the number of deaths by road accident was 1300. Then we started with awareness campaigns due to which this number fell down to 300 something, a fall of around 61%. The recent reports show further fall down in the numbers. This is a big achievement and our target is to bring the number to zero. We are working on the motive of Meerut to be recognized as Zero accident zone. And we believe that we can achieve it by looking at the steep decline in number of accidents in previous year only by the means of awareness.

Why education is important? And how education was important to you? And how education transformed you and when?
Education is extremely important to give you an outlook toward the issue prevalent in the society. The way an educated person could understand a thing differs steeply from the viewpoint of an uneducated person.

An uneducated person does not have knowledge, experience and thoughts. It is very important to have education before starting anything

What was your time table during as a school student? What were your hobbies and favorite pastime?
I did not have a timetable or a schedule during school that I have to study at this time or that. Whatever I was able to do with interest I used to do it. The subjects which I found easier, I used to give less time to it and the subjects like science or maths, I used to give more time to that.

My hobby was to play cricket and participating in various social activities. I used to organize and direct cultural activities. Like small events in the school or the colony. I started organizing events from class I only. When I used to see big scale Ramlila, I also wanted to organize one. So I along with other friends used to perform and organize Ramlila in our lane only, though on a small scale. So the social involvement started from there only. Today I am working with NGO’s or other organizations at district and state level which are related to social causes and are working for the welfare of the society.

How you became successful? What is your success mantra in one line?
I became successful by hard work and dedication and this is the only success mantra. We should not do any work greedily. We should work in the direction of our dreams with all purity of heart and dedication and surely we will get success.

What according to you is the difference in present education pattern and the time you were in school
The present education system is highly upgraded and modified. We can search a lot of things on our phone. Even spelling mistakes can be corrected within seconds. In our times we used to look at the dictionary or ask the teacher about the spelling.

Please tell us a sad incident that happened in your childhood to now and how did you manage to overcome?
I could not remember any such incident as of now. But I very strongly feel that there should be counseling session for parents as well as their children. Children should be counseled through their parents as well. They will be able to tell and guide their children as they play a very crucial role in shaping the career of their wards.

Today’s children get into depression, anxiety, suicide etc? What message can you give us to overcome this fear?
Students should never go to such extremes that they have to take such a drastic steps. In case of any anxiety or stress they should tell their parents or teachers about that and sort a solution for that.

What role did your parents play in your success?
Parents played a very significant role in shaping the career as I said earlier. Without their support a child cannot do anything.

What role did your school / teachers play in your success?

Please tell about 3 people in your life who are your role model?
I have only one role model and that is Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. In my view point he is the only person who has successfully sailed though all the hardships of life and all ups and downs of life. And his height and by height I means social height that has not decreased till date and it has only increased.

Something you want to tell young generation school students which we forgot to ask and you would like to share?

Success by Education By City Magistrate Meerut

We welcome you to Success by Education Interview:

What is / are your Present assignment, duties and designation
I am assigned as City Magistrate in Meerut. My Current duties are to maintain the law and order in Meerut. Looking after court work specially the criminal cases

Did you ever think that you can be on this stage of life?
I always thought of this service only. From my school days only I only wanted to join civil service. So I was very focused on my goal since the very beginning.

Do you remember some naughtiness / mistake/ important incidence you did / remember as a young child?
I should have devoted more time on science subjects. Also cut down on my extra-curricular activities. They consumed my most of the time. I was very much involved in sports like cricket and carom.

Did you decide what you are today? And how did you reach here ?
I was pretty sure from the school life itself that I wanted to go to the civil services only. I prepared for the examination and gone through

What you like at best in your job profile to date? Something you did and you became internally happy and you still remember?
Meeting people like you and meeting people from all walks of life and understanding their problems and trying my best to solve their problems.

Why education is important? And how education was important to you? And how education transformed you and when?
Education empowers you to do whatever you want. I come from a middle class family and only because of education I was able to reach here.

What was your time table during as a school student? What were your hobbies and favorite pastime?
My favourite pastime was playing Cricket and Carrom. I also had keen interest in drawing and sketching. I devoted around three hours daily to my studies after school time.

How you became successful? What is your success mantra in one line?
Concentration and clarity of your goals is the key to your success. You have to be very clear in mind what you wanted out of your life. What you wanted to do. Devote all you energies toward that goal and that goal only.

What according to you is the difference in present education pattern and the time you were in school
Education now-a-days is more scientific, goal oriented, to the point and systematic. In my times, some 20-25 years back we do not have such gadgets and internet to take information from the click of the button and we were not fortunate to have scientific techniques of education.

Please tell us a sad incident that happened in your childhood to now and how did you manage to overcome?
I almost flunth in my physics exam in class 8th. Its when I decided to devote more time to studies and especially science and I was very sad at that time. But I overcome that and scored better marks in future.

Today’s children get into depression, anxiety, suicide etc? What message can you give us to overcome this fear?
Please do not chase away marks. 90%… 98%….. 99%. It does not matter in your professional life. It may matter in getting admission in your favorite college. In this competitive life, the only thing that matters is you get 50 or 55% marks in your class X, class XII or graduation and you have to sit in the competitive examinations. You have to compete with other students. I scored only 61% in my class X examinations. Percentage does not matter.  So do not get depressed by your marks thinking I should be scoring this much or that much

What role did your parents play in your success?
Since I told you that I belonged to a middle class background, I had to rely on our strength. I did not go to many coachings. My parents and my siblings were very supportive and they helped me though out in my academic journey

What role did your school / teachers play in your success?
My teachers were very motivating. They tried to inculcate a studying hobby and they motivated us to focus on our goals and to chase away our dreams.

Please tell about 3 people in your life who are your role model?
One was my Shri, R K Singh in school. My geography Mam Dr. Sushila Singh
One was my father Shri. N.P. Singh

Something you want to tell young generation school students which we forgot to ask and you would like to share?
Again I repeat, do not go blindly for marks or percentage. Be clear in your goals Devote some time to extra-curricular activities that are very important doing good in your subject should be your first priority but apart from that to become successful society person you should also indulge in other activities.

Success by Education By ADM Finance and Revenue, Meerut

We welcome you to Success by Education Interview:

What is / are your Present assignment, duties and designation
I am posted as ADM Finance in Meerut and my duties are to collect revenue, to monitor various departments, how much target they are achieving in the financial year. Also I look into the measures that can be done to increase the revenue

Did you ever think that you can be on this stage of life?
Yes, I had thought that I would achieve this.

Do you remember some naughtiness / mistake/ important incidence you did / remember as a young child?
During the young age children are the ones who do the mistakes. Moreover, I believe that the child who is more naughty and more active is more intelligent as compared to who is dull or who does nothing.

Did you decide what you are today? And how did you reach here?
I had aimed for joining Civil services after my graduation. With hard work, determination and of course our memory based system, I had reached here.

What you like at best in your job profile to date? Something you did and you became internally happy and you still remember?
In our job profile, we have chances to meet several people. We get the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life. Social life that we enjoy is the best part of our work profile.

Why education is important? And how education was important to you? And how education transformed you and when?
Education distinct us from the animals. They have everything but they don’t have their thinking power as developed as man. Man is the only animal, who studies formally and makes use of mind. There are infinite capacities of the brain. If you decide you can do anything. Nothing is impossible and beyond the capacities of human brain.

What was your time table during as a school student? What were your hobbies and favorite pastime?
Students have timetable for getting up in the morning and then particular time is devoted to studies, some time for miscellaneous activities and some for playing and other recreational activities.
Though I never made any written time table, but broadly I was assigning time to all these activities.
Hobbies I enjoy listening music and reading some books. Books from varied fields other from our job profile and other from what we have read during our graduation or post-graduation.
Books are now-a-days available on electronic media such as kindle, laptop
You should read books related to your interest area otherwise you would become bored with the books. The field in which you are interested or you want to know something.
I do not have any specific interest. I had read several books on stock market. I also like to read biographies of successful people such as successful scientists, big industrialist. I like inspirational books which tell us the stories of people who have raised from nobody or zero to great heights.
You can read books about Microsoft owner Bill Gates. He was zero and raise to become the richest man of the world. These are very inspirational stories and you can learn a lot from their life.
There are no fixed criteria of success. Success is always relative

Did you ever feared about the studies
Never, we are still studying and we are still reading a lot of books. I had to read a lot of books related to my field of working.
I feel that students are not frightful of studies but they are frightful of marks. If you will devote time and if you read books related to your hobby or your own interest, you would find studies very interesting.

How you became successful? What is your success mantra in one line?
Hard work, dedication and commitment toward your goal

What according to you is the difference in present education pattern and the time you were in school
Present day education pattern is more practical way of teaching. More related to memory maps and research have been done in education field to devise the best way to teaching. Best practices from all over the world are now coming to India. The syllabus and new methods of teaching have also evolved. In our times, the three dimensional photographs and the smart classes that you have in your classrooms were not present in our times. We did not even  have computers in our schools.

Please tell us a sad incident that happened in your childhood to now and how did you manage to overcome?
As far as I can remember nothing bad or sad had happened in my life.
When I was in class 8th, I met some people who have inspired or changed my life. They had guided me in the right direction

Today’s children get into depression, anxiety, suicide etc? What message can you give us to overcome this fear?
They are afraid of what society will say of their marks. For this reason, they are taking such steps. There is huge pressure from parents, teacher, among the student. That you have not scored and I have scored many marks.
Have you given a thought that what your school topper had done after five or ten years. Most of the students, not all, do not have done very well in life. The reason being that they are so overconfident, which makes them afraid of getting failed and restrict them from trying anything new.

What role did your parents play in your success?
Parents play a very important role. They inspire us to chase our dreams. They support us from the back and they always provide us guidance and help. They help us financially also and other facilities. The whole success of any person is more or less success of their parents.

What role did your school / teachers play in your success?
Teachers have a very crucial role in your life. They give you the directions. They help you in exploring or selecting the field in which you can excel in your life.

Please tell about 3 people in your life who are your role model?
I do not have any role model. I believe that you cannot be somebody else. Everybody is unique and have unique characteristics. You cannot copy any one or become any one. You cannot become APJ Abdul kalam azad or Jawahar Lal Nehru. You have to understand your strengths and weaknesses and work according to them. You have to be your own self

Something you want to tell young generation school students which we forgot to ask and you would like to share?
In my view Indian Education System is memory based. If you memorize anything and your recall the memorized stuff while writing the exam your score well. Only this education pattern is followed in India Where as actual creativity and ingenuity are not highlighted and in fact missing from our education system.  This is the reason that India is only preparing stereotype jobs and there are no intellectuals and there are very few scientists who are of international repute and who has their original thinking and research.
You start thinking in which direction you want to go in your life. Do those things that interest you and you enjoy doing. There is no point doing a thing that does not excite you.

Success by Education By Commissioner Meerut

We welcome you to Success by Education Interview:

What is / are your Present assignment, duties and designation
I have been assigned the position of Commissioner, Meerut Division. The current assignment involves supervising the work of District Magistrates. Meerut Division has six districts – Meerut, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Baghpat, Gautam Buddh Nagar and Bulandshahar. The land under the whole geographical area under these districts is being managed by the office.
Traditionally commissioner and DM were known as Collector and commissioner. They used to oversee that the land is properly managed by individuals and government agencies. The office manages all the revenue records. They are also involved in revenue collection from villagers. Later on when the country developed, various development schemes also became very important. Task of implementing developmental schemes is also vest with collectors and commissioners.
My work is to coordinate the work of all developmental agencies and oversee that the schemes are implemented properly. If there is any law and order problem, as representative of the government, is our responsibility. Anything, in fact in our district is our responsibility.

Did you ever think that you can be on this stage of life?
No, I live only in the moment, so future planning was never my agenda. Future is something which is very difficult to be predicted. I did not planned to be an IAS as a kid, but later on persuasion of my family I decided to give it a shot. I never had such idea of becoming an IAS. So after passing out from IIT, everybody around me suggested that I should give the exam, so I prepared and cleared the exam. But what is more important is that you should have overview of things. If you want to compete or participate in such exams you should have an overview of what is happening around you. And that should be out of interest and not by force; otherwise it will not remain in your mind. And you will not be able to retain it.

Do you remember some naughtiness / mistake/ important incidence you did / remember as a young child?
I was pretty naughty and did a lot of naughtiness. I do not as such remember any incident right now but I was very naughty.

Did you decide what you are today? And how did you reach here ?
Just by staying in the moment. It is very important to stay in the moment and do whatever is important today. Planning is something which is very difficult.

What you like at best in your job profile to date? Something you did and you became internally happy and you still remember?
You can do a lot of things for the people who cannot do it themselves. I mean, you can help a lot of people. That is the most important thing and there are things for which no body is looking after. In a country like India, Government is not able to take care of many things. There are lots of gaps in people’s life. So helping a lot of persons is the best thing that I enjoy. Although there are many things that are not part of our duty but I simply enjoy helping people. I firmly believe that if you have the capacity to do it and then you must do it.

Why education is important? And how education was important to you? And how education transformed you and when?
In our times we have lot of regards for teachers. To besides education, teachers teaches us life skills as well. Since we had so much regards for them, so anything they said used to be very important for us and we used to immediately grasp it. We used to idolize them. I initially wanted to become a teacher.
Education system gives us knowledge and also tells you how to live your life. Ultimately what you want to become what you want to do in life that means other things beyond rote learning were also told to us by our teachers. Teachers used to be at a very higher level.

What was your time table during as a school student? What were your hobbies and favorite pastime?
I was all and all in sports. I used to play all kinds of sports, kabbadi, patangbazi, cricket, badminton, table tennis. After school I was never in the house. In holidays, I was also never in home. Used to play outside totally after school. I followed no timetable.

How you became successful? What is your success mantra in one line?
Be honest to yourself. If you are not honest to yourself then you cannot do anything. If you fool yourself that you are doing something and not doing it properly you can never be successful.

What according to you is the difference in present education pattern and the time you were in school
As I said the value system. In our times, I have studied in government school, we used to give lot of regards to teachers. Rarely had I studied at my house. We used to study in the school only and that was the only thing. And after that we used to study in the exam time. I think that has changed a lot now. Now may be because of the commercialization of education or schools that teacher student relationship is missing. I really could not make out where exactly the problem is since society as a whole is also changing. Tuitions was a rare things but today generation totally rely on tuitions. Now-a-days more emphasis is on passing and pass percentage rather than knowledge. In our times it was more important to have knowledge. See, read or learn whatever you want, but ultimately what matters is how you are able to retain and how much you are able to apply. That is what knowledge is. Parents running after the percentage is silliest thing. My own daughter has not attended school after ninth standard. She is a sports person, so school has also given her exemption. She did not went for a single class. She only used to go for exams.

Please tell us a sad incident that happened in your childhood to now and how did you manage to overcome?
Sad incident!!!! See as I told you I live in the present moment. So in case, there was a sad incident, I will not remember it. My system is like this I do not remember unpleasant things.
I also advise not to remember any sad incident in your life. The moment it happen, let it go and remember only the happy incidents of your life and not the sad ones.

Today’s children get into depression, anxiety, suicide etc? What message can you give us to overcome this fear?
The major cause of depression is expectation. Either your own expectation from yourself or expectation of your parents from you. Now this is something which is really dangerous.
See, life is very very long. There is lot to do in life. So in whatever you do and whether you succeed or fail, is not at all important. Specially one exam that you pass or fail it is not going to decide your future. After sometime, people will not even ask you how much marks you go in tenth or twelfth. Whether you qualify for IIT or any other competitive exam or not.
Many student who qualified for IIT and perused IIT are doing something totally different.
Somebody who has studied chemical engineering is doing software engineering. Some people are also doing business after passing out from IIT. So what you do later on will be totally different from what you have thought. So any incident happening now should not have long lasting effect on you.
Many persons who were not able to qualify IIT are doing much better than who studied IIT. So one result does not matter. This life is very long and gives us ample opportunities to prove ourselves. You yourself would see that somebody topping your class is not doing well after ten years. And you would be surprised that this was the topper but maybe I am in a much better position right now. Life should not be judged on the basis of one or two incidents. Setbacks come and you should overcome those setbacks as soon as possible and be ready for the next action.
I never used to get good marks in hindi and English because I had aptitude for maths and science. When I was studying in IIT I got D in electronics but good scorer in astro physics since I had an aptitude for that. Marks should not judge what you are.

What role did your parents play in your success?
They just prayed to God that I should be blessed with knowledge and wisdom. They never forced their own wishes on me and always supported me. I was never asked by my parents whether I am studying or not studying.

What role did your school / teachers play in your success?
School teachers played the most vital role in my success. As I told earlier, I used to idealize my teachers. Still I remember them, still some of the teachers come and meet me or I go and meet them. It is almost 40 years still the relationship is there.

Please tell about 3 people in your life who are your role model?

Gandhi ji

Gautam Buddha

KabirDas
They are my role model since they were so simple and they made such a huge impact on society. Kabir das was such a simple man, but in my opinion he was the most intelligent man who has ever lived on this earth. By the sheer simplicity of his knowledge he used to express society. His dohas have very deep meaning and they are still relevant till today. He lived some 500 years back but has such profound knowledge which we do not have till today. We still get into petty things.

Something you want to tell young generation school students which we forgot to ask and you would like to share?
If you want to succeed in life you must have capacity to concentrate and do hard work. I said capacity… doesnot mean that you should be working, working and always working. When the crunch time comes, you should be in the position to perform and do what you were supposed to do. So that capacity has to be there.
In my opinion life is very simple and should be lived very simply. Complications come from emotions like love, hatred likes and dislikes, they create complications. The philosophy that I give to my children is that sadness and happiness should be treated as two kinds of hills.
The hill of happiness should be very low so you can cross the hill easily that means even a very small thing should be able to please, should be able to make you happy.
And the hill of sadness should be very high and should not be easy to cross. That means even a very difficult or sad situation should not be able to let you cross the hill of sadness and should not be able to effect you.

Please suggest 3 more people in Meerut who should be interviewed
They should be from different walks of life. You can interview a politician who has risen from scratch and reached a level.
Second you should interview a successful businessman.
Third you can interview a common man, just anybody going on the street.
