After waiting on the fringes of India’s steel sector for 13 years, business tycoon L N Mittal is set to make it to the centre stage with the acquisition of Essar Steel. After the Supreme Court approved Mittal’s resolution plan for the bankrupt Essar Steel on Friday, he said he is “looking forward to closing the acquisition soon”.
The Supreme Court on Friday cleared the takeover of Essar Steel by global metals magnate LN Mittal’s ArcelorMittal after a protracted legal battle, which will pave the way for banks to recover Rs 42,000 crore in dues and oust the Ruias, once among the most powerful business families in the country.
